Mito Walk & Roll 5K Marathan

Join Stephen Nissou and the Nissou Realty Group team this Saturday, May 17th, 2014 at 11am at Point Loma's Liberty Station for the Mito Walk & Roll 5K Marathan, where we will walk, run, and roll for the children that can't.

The UCSD Mito Research Fund is a non-profit organization that was founded by the Whaley Family. The Fund was made to help raise awareness, as well as research costs to help find a cure for Mitochondrial Disease. Research efforts go directly to the Mitochondrial and Metabolic Disease Center at the University of California, San Diego. 

Mitochondrial disease is a chronic, genetic disorder that occurs when the mitochondria of the cell fail to produce energy for the cell or for organ function. When it fails, less energy is produced and generated within the cell. Whole systems begin to fail and life is severly comrpomised. 

Children with the disease are treated at both UCSD Medical Center aand Rady Children's Hospital. The joint mission is to create a comprehensive center for research, diagnosis, and treatment and young adults with the disease.
